Map
The portion of Cameron Avenue running through the central part of campus will be closed to through traffic on Thursday (Oct. 13) from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. The closure will stretch between the intersections of Cameron with South Columbia Street, near the Carolina Inn, and Raleigh Street and Country Club Road, next to the Coker Arboretum.

The temporary changes support UNC-Chapel Hill’s role as the host campus for the inauguration of UNC President Margaret Spellings. A Memorial Hall ceremony on Thursday morning is a ticketed event. (UNC-TV will broadcast the event and post a live web stream on www.northcarolina.edu.)

Faculty and staff using parking lots in this area of campus should follow these instructions:

  • Swain and Peabody permit holders; please enter Cameron Avenue from the South Columbia Street intersection;
  • Bynum Circle, Steele, Caldwell, Old East, Arboretum Lane and Emerson permit holders; please enter Cameron Avenue from the Raleigh Street/Country Club Road intersection;
  • Hanes Lot and South Building permit holders are encouraged to enter Cameron Avenue from the Raleigh Street/Country Club Road intersection, but may also enter from South Columbia Street.

The Department of Transportation and Parking is contacting all affected permit holders individually via campus email.

Chapel Hill Transit will operate on a normal schedule, including for all routes running through Cameron Avenue. However, students, faculty and staff are advised to plan ahead for travel to and from campus in case you might need extra time to arrive at your destination.

Motorists can expect detours and possible delays from South Road and north toward Cameron Avenue and should plan accordingly. Some pedestrians may need to use alternate sidewalk routes in part of the Cameron Avenue area.

For more information, please see the map detailing the affected areas of Cameron Avenue and parking lots.
