Daylight Saving Time started Nov. 5, so make sure you’re visible! Lighten Up is a campaign dedicated to helping bicyclists and walkers become more visible in low light. Look for CAP representatives at the Pit, Nov. 15 at 1 p.m., handing out rear bike lights, or stop by the Public Safety Building or the Hospital Parking Office (while supplies last).
Remember these NC Laws:
- At night, bicycles need a head light plus a red tail light (or bright clothing) – all visible from 300 feet – and a rear reflector at all times.
- Bicyclists may travel on all roads except highways and must obey traffic laws.
- Helmets are required for riders under age 16.
- when biking on the road, ride with traffic. When walking on the road, face traffic.
Other Safety Tips:
- Ride predictably – indicate turns by signaling and make eye contact with motorists.
- Stay alert – don’t wear headphones whiles riding.
- Communicate – Alert pedestrians before passing.
