Beginning Friday, July 5 through Wednesday, July 10, UNC-Chapel Hill will experience temporary parking and traffic impacts in support of a film production taking place on campus.

Parking Impacts

Several parking areas will be closed in support of filming operations and will not be available for daytime, weeknight or visitor parking at the following days and times:

During these closures, permit holders in lots designated for full closure should park in the Cobb Parking Deck or Nash Parking Lot. Vehicles not removed from lots reserved for filming prior to closure will be relocated. State vehicles should also be relocated from lots prior to closure. UNC-D permit holders in impacted areas will be contacted by email for accommodation assistance.

Traffic and Transit Impacts

Roads on and adjacent to campus will be closed during this production at the following days and times:

Monday, July 8

  • 6 a.m. to 12 p.m.:
East Franklin Street (between South Columbia Street and Hillsborough Street)
Henderson Street (between East Franklin Street and East Rosemary Street)
  • 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.:
Rolling roadblocks on looped route following East Franklin Street to South Columbia Street to East Cameron Avenue to Raleigh Street.
  • 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.:
West/East Cameron Avenue (between Pittsboro Street and Raleigh Street)
South Columbia Street (between South Road and Franklin Street)

Tuesday, July 9

  • 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.:
East Cameron Avenue (between South Columbia Street and Raleigh Street)

Traffic in these areas will be detoured, and drivers should plan routes to campus accordingly. Permit holders who need to access parking along closed routes will be issued a production pass via email.

Chapel Hill Transit will implement detours on impacted routes. While Chapel Hill Transit will make every attempt to maintain schedules, riders should plan for delays due to rerouting. Visit Chapel Hill Transit for information on detours and alternate stops.

Permit Holder Guidance

Closed Parking Lots

During lot closures, permit holders assigned to Swain (NG1), Bynum Circle (N3), Caldwell (NG3)  and Old East (N3) lots should park in the Cobb Parking Deck or Nash Parking Lot. UNC-D permit holders in impacted areas will be contacted by email for accommodation assistance.

Open Parking Lots Impacted by Road Closures

Permit holders who need to access parking along closed routes will be issued a production pass via email. The pass should be displayed to staff at closure points and can be printed or displayed on a phone. Drivers should expect to wait up to 15 minutes for access if filming is in progress.

During road closures, lots should be accessed by the following routes:

  • July 8 East Franklin Street Closure –  Morehead Lot (N2) should be accessed via Raleigh/Hillsborough Street.
  • July 8 East Cameron Avenue Closure – N3 and NG3 permit holders should access East Cameron Avenue via Raleigh Street.
  • July 9 East Cameron Avenue Closure – Peabody (N3), Hanes and South Building lots should be accessed via Columbia Street. Steele (N3), Emerson Drive (N3) and Arboretum Lane should be accessed via Raleigh Street.

UNC-D Permit Holders

UNC-D permit holders who need to access parking in closed lots or along closed routes will be issued a production pass via email. The pass should be displayed to staff at closure points and can be printed or displayed on a phone. Drivers should expect to wait up to 15 minutes for access if filming is in progress.

During lot closures, some UNC-D spaces will not be available and permit holders should use the following alternate spaces:

  • UNC-D Swain NG1 spaces outside Hill Hall will be closed and permit holders should use Kenan Music spaces.
  • UNC-D Old East N3 spaces will be closed, and permit holders should use spaces in Bynum Circle and Steele lots.

Parking lot and road closure schedules are subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances. Please check this page for updates and allow time for planning alternate routes and parking as needed.
