Dedicated visitor and patient parking facilities are located throughout the UNC campus, providing hourly parking access to UNC and UNC Health Care System. Hours of operation are posted at entrances.

Patient Parking

Employees, contract employees, and students are not eligible to park in areas designated for patients/visitors unless attending a medical appointment. Affiliated use permits are required for students and employees who wish to use areas designated as patient parking while attending medical appointments. Affiliated use permits may be obtained through Transportation and Parking or through a parking lot attendant.

Cars at entrance of Ambulatory Care Lot (ACC).The Ambulatory Care Lot accommodates patients and visitors to the Ambulatory Care Center. Only employees or students with medical appointments are eligible to park and should request a temporary permit from the booth attendant upon entering the lot or register for an “affiliated use” permit online in advance of the appointment.

The Dogwood Parking Deck accommodates visitors and patients at UNC Health Care, UNC Dental School, and other medical facilities.

During regular business hours (Mon.-Fri. 6 a.m. – 5 p.m.), employees and students are not eligible to park unless attending medical appointments and should request a temporary permit for “affiliated use” online in advance of the appointment.

Visitor Parking

Visitors to UNC-Chapel Hill may park at one of the following locations:

Employees and students needing a short-term or hourly parking option may park at Rams Head for up to 24 hours at a time at the hourly rate or at campus meters. For more information, see Visitor & Patient Parking Rates.

Departments may reserve parking for visitors in the Rams Head, Morehead, or Raleigh Road lots. Reservations should be made online at least a week in advance.

Rams Head Parking Deck at night.The Rams Head Deck accommodates short-term/hourly parking and is centrally located and adjacent to the George Watts Hill Alumni Center, Football Stadium, and Baseball Stadium. Chase Dining Hall and Rams Head Recreation Center are located on top of the deck. The lot is operated 24 hours a day with an attendant or pay station available.

Raleigh Road Parking Lot, Chapel Hill, NC

Solar-powered parking Meter near South Road.Metered Parking accommodates short-term/hourly parking throughout campus via solar-powered Digital Meter Stations. Central meter locations are located on South Road, Raleigh Street, and Country Club.

Digital Meter Stations will allow payment for parking by license plate or space number. Please have plate number or space number ready for entry at meter station – follow the prompts.

Digital Meter Stations can be activated weekdays, from 7:30 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. and accept Visa, Mastercard, and Quarters, or ParkMobile. The maximum time allowed for metered parking is posted on the meter and ranges from 30 minutes to 3 hours. Metered spaces may be restricted during event operations.

Paying for Parking with ParkMobile

With the app, the payment process is straightforward:

  • Enter the zone number listed on the green ParkMobile sign;
  • Scan the QR code in the lower right-hand corner of the sign or the NFC sticker at the bottom of the sign; or
  • Use the GPS functionality.
  • Then, select the desired time and press “start.”
