Parking for Morehead visitors is available in several area parking lots and on Franklin Street in downtown Chapel Hill.
The closest parking lot is directly in front of the Morehead Building and is operated by UNC as a campuswide parking lot. This UNC lot is gated and offers 40 public spaces, in addition to annual permit spaces. During normal operations, a parking attendant is on duty during these hours:
- Monday-Thursday: 7:30 a.m.-12 a.m.
- Friday: 7:30 a.m.-2 a.m.
- Saturday-Sunday: 3 p.m.-2 a.m.
Fees apply for each hour of parking during these hours ($1.50 per hour) and can be paid by cash or credit card. Overnight parking is not permitted in this UNC lot.
UNC reserves spaces in this lot for events, so spaces are not always available. Please allow adequate time to find alternate parking if this lot is not available. Questions concerning this parking lot can be directed to the UNC Department of Public Safety at 919-962-3951.Interactive Campus Map

In addition to the UNC lot directly in front of the Morehead Building, visitors can find metered spaces on Franklin Street (free on Sunday and after 6 p.m. on weekdays) and public parking decks on Rosemary Street (fees vary by lot). After business hours and on weekends, other parking lots on the UNC campus may have spaces available.
Small buses may be able to park in the UNC lot, if space permits.
Standard buses are not permitted to park in the UNC lot but may use this lot to drop off and pick up passengers. Bus drivers should pull into the lot, drive to the front of the Morehead Building and let passengers off the bus. All group members should remain on the sidewalk in front of the building while one adult goes into the gift shop for check-in. Buses may use off-site parking at the Dean Dome. If needed, Morehead will provide shuttle service so that bus drivers can be with their groups during on-site activities.
Bus drivers should return to pick up the group at a time designated by the group leader. Planetarium staff can help group leaders determine the approximate time. It is helpful if bus drivers have access to cell phones.
