Bus Pass
Chapel Hill Transit provides fare-free bus service between the University, Chapel Hill, and Carrboro. Park-and-Ride lots are available for daytime riders (parking permits are required).
GoTriangle provides direct bus service to UNC-Chapel Hill’s main campus from Durham, Raleigh, and Hillsborough.
Obtaining a GoPass
GoTriangle will resume fare collection effective July 1, 2024. University faculty, staff, employees and affiliates and UNC Hospital employees with an active UNC email are eligible for a free GoPass.

The Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation (PART) connects UNC-Chapel Hill to Greensboro, Burlington, Graham and Mebane with Route 4. UNC-Chapel Hill provides an XPass to ride fare-free.
Obtaining an XPass
- Complete PART’s registration form. Eligibility will be verified by UNC-Chapel Hill.
- Riders may select the Umo mobile app for immediate use, or a Smartcard can be mailed.
- PART will send an email with instructions to activate the XPass with the app or Smartcard.
- To replace an XPass Smartcard, complete PART’s registration form.
Free Park-and-Rides
PART provides free Park-and-Ride lots along I-40.
Orange County Public Transportation provide direct bus service to UNC-Chapel Hill’s main campus from Hillsborough. Orange County’s Orange-Chapel Hill Connector offers an OPass to ride free.
Obtaining an OPass
- Complete the OPass registration form. Eligibility will be verified by UNC-Chapel Hill.
- UNC-Chapel Hill will email riders with instructions to activate the OPass in the Umo mobile app.
