Best Workplaces for Commuters 2024The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has been named one of the Best Workplaces for Commuters 2024 by the Center for Urban Transportation Research, making it more than 20 consecutive years that the University has received this designation. Carolina was one of 67 colleges and universities across the nation and one of 12 institutions in North Carolina to receive this recognition.

Best Workplaces for Commuters recognizes employers that meet the program’s National Standard of Excellence and demonstrate they meet or exceed the nationally recognized benchmark for employers offering outstanding commuter benefits.

Carolina’s nationally recognized Commuter Alternative Program (CAP) rewards faculty, staff and students who use alternative modes of travel, including taking the bus, joining a rideshare, riding a bike or walking to campus. Sustainable transportation options build community, improve air quality and reduce traffic congestion to make everyone’s commute better.

According to the University’s 2019 Commuter Survey, 30% of employees and 73% of students travel to campus using transit, biking, walking or rideshare options.

“We are thrilled that Carolina has once again been named as a Best University for Commuters,” said Landon Coley, transportation manager for UNC-Chapel Hill. “It’s a great feeling to be recognized for our dedication to providing ample transportation options to our students, faculty and staff.”
